August Anxiety and Dealing with End-of Summer Dread
Does the weather bring you down? Do you dread that back-to-school stress? Have you been taking many adventures this summer?
I read about “August Anxiety” this morning. It refers to how things like the imminent change of weather or back to school stress can bring a person down. In some instances, people might even feel down at the end of a holiday or simply because they didn’t get away this year.
I’m no expert but I find even a short walk in the park or on the beach helpful for relieving stress and anxiety. More specifically, I don’t dread the cold or rain and always feel better outdoors, than I do when “stuck” inside.
Have you ever had an icy swim on Christmas morning? I did, once, it was exhilarating and Balscadden Beach is a grand spot for a cup of hot tea when you get back out.
Anyway, my point is, Ireland is the perfect place to spend time outdoors. It can be cold and wet but that’s why we have rain gear, beanie-hats and a secret pair of long-johns underneath.
Besides, September is often bright and pleasant in the evenings, and just like the weather – anxiety will always come and go.
I should know, I feel it all the time.
