The robins must be the same as they are very territorial, they stay in a radius of a few hundred meters. They are yours ๐Ÿ™‚

Instead of selling your handcrafted candles and natural wonders you could make them prizes in competitions or gifts to supporters. How about an art exhibition, too ambitious?

Hi Piotr. I didn’t know that about robins but the two of them actually show up together and usually sit side by side on the edge of the bush! Re the handcrafted items, nice idea as my hope for the future is to provide free outdoor wilderness eduacation for people in Ireland so gifts of this kind would be nice – thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Go Derek!
I love following you journey of growth!
I’m interested to know what will you be using this little patch of land for?

Derek Cullen

Thank you, Tim! I will be living on the plot, growing food and building a reasonably self-sufficient life. I also want to have a little shed on the land which I will use as an “office” and a place to read or write books. I have already named this shed – the Bunker – so guess I should really crack on with getting it built ๐Ÿ˜›

Is this the start of a commune๐Ÿ˜€. It does sound like a fantastic idea. To be self sustainable can be very rewarding in many ways. Your missing nothing on the mortgage front that’s for sure!

haha not quite a commune! But I’m very excited to document building this life and the changes etc that come from the lifestyle. Thanks Graham ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Derek. We feed birds here too and itโ€™s lovely to look out at them in the garden. Very relaxing. I read a quote somewhere that went something like โ€œgo out every day and look at something not created by human hands – a sunset, the sea, a mountainโ€ Little birds would fall into that category too. I also get what you said about getting paid for something you make taking the enjoyment out of it. I played tin whistle and a few people asked me to teach their kids. That took the enjoyment out of it for me. So I stopped playing. Must take it up again ๐Ÿค”

Thanks for leaving this comment Rosemarie and yes, I think this experience you had with the tin whistle is a great example. And I think living with a focus on doing purposeful things with our time most often requires that we forget about turning them into a business! I do love the birds and looking forward to building a nice bird stand shortly ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow Derek, your next adventure sounds incredible! Go you, for following your dreams! You are so inspiring and I cannot wait to make a new life for myself in my new house and top of the list = having my morning coffee outside in my garden every morning and feeding my birds. I’ve never had my own garden for years, so very excited to create my own little zen! Thank you again for sharing your journey, you’ve given me the confidence, hope and boost that I can be on my own. I am excited to see what new things I’ll be doing in my new home. Sorry i can’t afford to subscribe atm, but maybe one day! Love that you are building your own bird table, with coffee of course!! Enjoy!

Thank you Amy and well done to you for focusing on the small wins! I’m really looking forward to building something that will last forever – like yourself, this will be my first time to have a place to call home ๐Ÿ™‚

And good man yourself David, thanks for signing up! I actually thought about you guys while doing this and think I may need to ask for a bit of advice on one or two things if that’s alright. I know you’re not on social media and that’s partly why I set up this website (so that I could spend time here on the website instead of social media). I’ve added the All Access to your username now so you just go to the same members area and should notice that you can now click on the “exclusive” posts such as the photos of the plot of land. I’ll be adding a lot more of these over the next while and documenting the whole journey with the plot of land so really looking forward to sharing this with you all ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you Sira! Yes I am thinking of getting a van later this year or in the near future at least. However, I do really wish to focus on getting a plot and creating a small home to call my own, first ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the comment and kind words!
